In order for puppies to grow healthily into adults, they need to have good nutrition for their diets. This is very important because they are experiencing accelerated growth stages for the first 15 months of their lives. Hence, feeding your puppy high quality dog food is very crucial for his development into an adult dog.

Protein for example is needed in larger amounts by growing puppies than it is by the adult dog, due to the rapid growth of the puppy’s muscles, joints and bones. The energy requirements for a puppy are considerably higher also making it essential for them to receive food nutritionally rich and calorie dense.

Since different breeds of puppies require different types of diets, there are a wide variety of puppy foods available out there. Each breed needs different nutritional compositions for their diets. For instance, little breed puppies are typically high in metabolism, whereas bigger dogs usually have lower metabolism. These little puppies need to have dog foods that are high in calorie.

When you feed your dog, be sure to follow the instructions stated on the dog food label or those given by your veterinarian.

Typically, puppies are fed three times daily. After they reach the age of four, the daily feedings decrease to two times daily.

Take extreme measures for your puppy. If he does not eat the appropriate puppy food at the proper time, you might jeopardize his health. Whenever he has diarrhea, you should also check how many feedings is going to be best for him.

By giving your puppy the proper dog food, he will be healthy. When he is healthy, he is going to be playful too. When you see that he is healthy and playful, you as a puppy owner will no doubt be very happy as well.

Feeding will depend on the breed and size of your dog so be sure to check with your vet before starting a good feeding program. If you find a dog food that you like, check the label for feeding instructions.

Finally, you must review if your feeding program brings good results for your puppy. If the results are poor or not what you expect them to be, you could start a new feeding campaign or you could discuss with your veterinarian and see if he has a better feeding program. Since your puppy is still at his tender years, it is the best time to begin a good feeding program for him so that he grows into a healthy adult dog.
