Stop that Dog from Whining
So you have a problem with a whining dog?
It is not unusual for people to have problems, particularly with puppies whining all day long.
Most puppies will outgrow this behavior.
They generally whine for two reasons. For attention and when they are anxious.
If they want attention, they will continue to whine if that attention attracts a reward.
It is better just to give your dog attention in the form of eye contact rather than a reward to stop it from whining, as a reward will only encourage it to whine all the more.
Often the best solution is to ignore the dog completely until the whining stops no matter how long it might take.
When the dog realizes that it is not getting the reward it expects from whining it will tend to stop.
An alternative method is to blow a whistle when your dog is whining and when it stops you stop.
Often this method works faster than simply ignoring it.Another reason why dogs whine is because they are anxious. Particularly when nobody is around and they have separation anxiety.
This can be more difficult, if you are unable to find somebody to mind the dog when you’re away.
Leaving your dog with suitable toys to play with, fresh food and water can assist, and also getting it used to you being away by starting off with shorter periods apart as discussed in a previous newsletter.
Another method to stop your dog from whining is to buy a clicker from a pet store and ignore the whining until it stops. Once the dog stops whining, wait for a few seconds and then click the clicker, and then reward it in some manner.
The dog will soon learn that the reward comes from its silence.
A Diet of Good Food and Good Exercise
Dog Quote: You never realize a dog is a man’s best friend until you start betting on horses.

To stay fit and healthy and happy and strong, a dog needs good exercise and good food just as humans do.
They’re an important part of our families, and they rely on us understanding their needs, as they cannot talk to us.
Fortunately, dogs are a bit more resilient than humans but they still do need regular exercise and good food.
One of the benefits of owning a dog is the fact that in many cases, knowing that they need exercise is a good reason for us to get out and exercise as well.
So you could say that owning a dog actually keeps humans healthier. Certainly a well-trained dog keeps us a lot happier.
There are many benefits that can be gained from owning a dog but you only get as much out of them as you put into them.
Good training, good shelter, good food, fresh water, regular exercise and a happy home are all that a dog needs to be content.
Just as the wrong foods can be very detrimental to the health of humans, the same goes for the health of dogs.
We have already discussed some of the nutritional requirements in an earlier newsletter and in the next newsletter we will be looking at some items that can be quite dangerous to dogs such as chocolate.
Until then, feed your dog premium pet food and fresh meat and make sure you get out and take them for a walk or run.
All About Training Your Dog
by Gerry Ronson
Learning how to train your dog and when to train your dog is going to be the most important aspect you should consider when you are choosing a dog for a pet. There are some dog breeds that do not train easily and others that just love to show off. When you consider the type of dog breed you would like to have you will need to understand the training process. While we can go into a few how to train your dog tips, you will find the best resource is going to be a dog training facility.
Dog training should be done as early as possible. While most dogs can learn new tricks at any age they will develop personalities, as they get older. It can make training a little harder for an older dog. They may not want to pay attention to the master. There are also different kinds of training. First there is just house training a dog, and then there is training the pet for tricks or working. The different breeds of dogs are going to tell you just what they can handle. For instance a golden retriever or German Shepard makes a great working dog. They are easily trained once you have them in a program and work well for their masters. On the other hand a Affenpinscher is going to be more difficult to train, even for house training.
Methods of training consist of crate training, clicker training, dog whistle training, and command training. First crate training is where you have the puppy in the crate overnight, when you are away from home, and at certain times when you are home. The idea behind crate training is that they will learn the behaviors that are bad. Reasons you may put your puppy in the crate include barking, being to hyper, having accidents, or getting into things they should not. You also want to train the dog that they can’t sleep on the bed with you and that bed time is going to be in their crate or bed you have bought for them. You may wish to use such things as noises from a clicker or a dog whistle to get them to come to you or do certain things when they hear the sound. Command training is one of the best training methods you can do. You want the dog to recognize commands so that they listen to your voice and do the behavior.
When you are training your dog you need to have a rewards system. If they succeed at the command or whatever you are trying to train them then they should get some type of reward whether it is a treat or just affection. You have to give the dog some sort of reassurance that they are doing something right. You also want to make them understand that bad behavior will not be rewarded. Think of training a dog a little like training younger children that may not understand everything yet. You need to give positive reinforcement, but also realize that you need to do something about the bad behavior. Just ignoring bad behavior with a dog is not going to do the trick. You have to keep repeating the behavior you do want while telling them “no” for behaviors you don’t want.
Dog training is going to be different depending on the dog. Some dogs have extremely high intelligence and patience to learn knew things and want to sit through training. Other breeds of dogs require a lot of stimulation during the activity while you are training them or they lose interest.
